NEGRO
My identity,
the logic of my existence
made anew
as I Spin myself into a timeless orbit
Haunting Adam's mind
Searching for signs written there
Things of my past I needed to know
To give the lie a name
The more truth we seek
The more confused we are
Coz we are ashamed 2 see
The truth of our past

Are we free from shackles 2 day?
No not at all
Though there is no chain today
We are but still a slave
Back to Soulful Chemistry

Beside the picture
the bible says was sure
I framed a photograph of me
And asked "father Abraham"
How he got a "NIGGER" son
I read somewhere about evolution
From my text book in school
I once took a scientific sketch
And wondered can a gorilla really
Transform into the modern race
In conjugation with my earth
Old chants came back to me
Recognizing forms not from
The tree that bears me
Appeasing the great inner mind
Thus I found solace in the pen
to make the Jesus I knew was black
and give the lie a name
Without color or passport
I force my mind to see you
the Jesus I knew was black
